Items

An item is a thing you have tagged: a bike, a suitcase, a dog, a drill, a moving box. Its record is private; what the person who scans its QR sees is set separately (What people who scan see).

Creating an item

My items › Add an item:

  • a name (the only mandatory field), a category, a description;
  • a photo, optional — the first one becomes the cover image;
  • the brand, the model and the serial number — only its last 4 characters can appear publicly;
  • the acquisition date, the purchase value and the estimated value — never published;
  • the item's visibility: Private, Shared or Public.

A QR is assigned to the item as soon as it is created (QR codes and stickers).

⚠️ The description can become public: do not write a phone number in it.

Categories and their fields

The category adds details specific to the kind of thing:

Category Details
Vehicles — car, motorcycle, bicycle, boat licence plate, mileage, VIN, engine size, frame number, hull number
Pets — dog, cat breed, chip number, colour, critical note
Luggage — suitcase, backpack declared contents
Equipment — tool, machine internal reference, owning team

A pet's critical note (ongoing treatment, allergy, "do not approach") is only shown to the person who scans its collar while it is declared lost (Lost & found).

Photos and documents

An item's Photos and documents screen:

  • Photos: add some, choose the cover (Set as cover). A photo set to public carries the "Publicly visible" badge.
  • Documents: invoices, manuals, warranties, certificates. They stay private and appear on no public page; Share opens one, one by one, to the people the item is shared with (Sharing an item). Documents are part of the paid plans (Plans).

The storage used is shown on the screen.

An item's status

An item's statuses

Each status has its action, on the item's record (the loss, on its Lost & found screen):

  • Put up for sale / Take off sale — "for sale" is a resale argument.
  • Report as stolen / Recovered — "stolen" is a deterrent. Cegeta does not warn the police for you. A confirmed e-mail address is required.
  • Archive — the thing is no longer yours (sold outside Cegeta, given away, thrown out): its label no longer shows anything of the item, its history remains. Unarchive puts it back into service. An archived item no longer counts towards your plan's quota.

⚠️ The status is visible to anyone who scans the item while it is public — "for sale" and "stolen" included.

The history

History tells the item's story in order: acquired, reported lost, found, document added, warranty added, maintenance done, label replaced, put up for sale, ownership transferred… Add a note records what deserves to be remembered — a repair, an adjustment. The history follows the item: a future owner inherits it, without ever seeing who wrote what (History, resale and transfer).

The item list

My items can be sorted, filtered, searched and exported (Export to CSV). A selection of several items can be stored in a location in one go (Locations and contents) or deleted.
