Locations and contents
Knowing where a thing is matters as much as knowing what it is. Locations describes the places where your items live — rooms, shelves, vehicles, sites — and an item can itself be a container whose contents you list: the "Cables" box, the van's toolbox.
Locations
Locations › Add a location: a name and a type — Room, Shelf, Vehicle, Site or Other.
- Nesting: Add a sub-location puts a location inside another — House › Cellar › Shelf B. Move a location and its sub-locations and their items come along.
- Delete location is only possible when it is empty: move its items and sub-locations first.
- In a business space, a location can have a person in charge — the person entrusted with the equipment it holds. They are never shown publicly.
With the free plan, you store flat: a single level of locations. Nesting, and opening a location to a member, are part of the paid plans (Plans).
Storing an item
On an item's record, the Storage and contents › Store in block chooses its location. From My items, a selection is stored in one go (Store). A location's page lists what is stored there.
An item's location is never public, nor shown to the people the item is shared with.
A container's contents
For what does not deserve a QR each — cables, screws, files —, stick a QR on the container and list its contents: Add a line, with What, a quantity, an optional unit (m, kg, pairs…) and a note for yourself.
Search then finds the contents: "HDMI cable" answers with the box that holds it and that box's location.
Opening a location to a member
In a business space, a member only sees the items they created. Location access, from the Members list, opens a location to them and everything it holds, sub-locations included:
- View: those items become visible to them, without them being able to change them;
- Manage: they act on those items as on their own.
See what it opens announces, before granting, how many locations and items the access will open.
