Sharing an item
Sharing an item means showing it to one specific person — a relative who borrows your bike, a neighbour who looks after your dog, a mechanic —, for a while, without making it public.
Sharing
On an item's record, Sharing › Share with someone:
- their e-mail address — they receive a link; nothing tells them whether they already have an account;
- what they can do: View, or Edit the page;
- for how long: 7 days, 30 days, 3 months, 1 year, or no end — a share with no end is a share you forget: keep it for someone close.
The invitation link lasts 7 days. The person signs in, or creates an account with the invited address, and Accept the share. The item's list of shares gives for each its state (invitation sent, active), its end and its last access; Remove ends it at once.
What the person sees
The item's record — without its values, its location, its maintenance costs, its emergency contacts or its documents. For a specific document, Share on the Photos and documents screen opens it to the people the item is shared with, one by one.
They can also show the full serial number (the access is recorded) and add a note to the history; with Edit the page, edit the page.
Reviewing your shares
Review all my shares gathers your active shares. Those not opened for more than a year are flagged: remove what is no longer used. Once a year, a notification reminds you.
What has been shared with me
Shared with me lists the items other people have shared with you, with what their share allows you.
Sharing is not…
- making public — that is the item's visibility (What people who scan see);
- inviting into a space — a member of a family space sees the whole space (Spaces and members);
- offering an emergency contact — that is the emergency contacts screen (Lost & found);
- transferring — that is the transfer (History, resale and transfer).
