What people who scan see

This is the rule that comes before all the others: what is not explicitly public stays private. Someone who scans the QR of one of your items only sees what you chose to show — and some data is never shown to them, whatever the setting.

Four levels

Level Who sees
Private you alone — the default level of any new data
Shared the people you shared the item with (Sharing an item)
Public anyone who scans the QR, without an account
Emergency only anyone who scans the QR, but only while the item is declared lost

Two settings, one inside the other

How a field becomes visible
  1. The item's visibility — Private, Shared or Public — is chosen on its record.
  2. Field by field, the item's Visibility screen sets each field: Like the item, Only in an emergency or Private. A field setting can only restrict: a field kept private stays private, even if the item becomes public.

The screen shows a preview: "What a stranger sees" is exactly the public page, with your current settings. The photo is set photo by photo, on the media screen.

What can appear

When you allowed it: the name, the description, the category, the brand, the model, the last 4 characters of the serial number, the status ("for sale", "stolen"…), the cover photo, the history events you published (their kind and year, nothing else), the number of successive owners.

Two pieces of information only come out if you explicitly open them, even on a public item: under warranty: yes / no and maintenance up to date / overdue.

And while the item is declared lost: a pet's critical note and the label of the emergency contacts you offer (Lost & found).

What never appears

Your name, your address, your phone number, your e-mail; the identity of successive owners; documents; the private history; the location; the purchase value and the estimated value; the full serial number; the emergency contacts' details. No setting opens them.

A private item stays reachable

Even on a private item, whoever scans the QR reads "Registered with Cegeta" and finds the I found this item button: they can always warn you, anonymously. Private hides the fields, never that button.

The serial number

Only its last 4 characters can be public: enough to prove we are talking about the right thing, not enough to impersonate one. Someone the item is shared with can show the full number — and that access is recorded.

A page that is a problem

Every public page carries the Report this QR code link: inappropriate content, fraud, a stolen item, personal data displayed… We read every report; the owner never learns who sent it. Cegeta does not arbitrate the ownership of a thing: for a theft, turn to the police.
